Windows Phone 8 shipments could surge by 150 per cent in 2013

New study from Digitimes Research forecasts Microsoft is estimated to see the biggest increase in shipments among all mobile phone operating-system next year as Windows Phone units, including both Windows Phone 7 and Windows Phone 8 designs, will see shipments increase 150% to 52.5 million models, good for a 6.1% share of the smart phone industry.

The company also forecasts that Google’s (GOOG) Android operating-system is estimated to “solidify its market leadership” in the mobile space in the next season. With continued support from a wide-range of smart phone suppliers and higher sales in growing markets, the platform could see deliveries top 600 million models, or 70% of the market, for the first occasion.

Apple is again likely to take 2nd spot with its iPhone accounting for 20% of all smart phone shipments, while Research in Motion’s (RIMM) BlackBerry units are likely to only account for a 3.7% share.
