It was a strong headline recently but now has been confirmed. Vidya, who is one of the most respected performers in India has joined the league of celebrities like Ang Lee, Nicole Kidman, Christopher Waltz, Scottish director Lynne Ramsay, Japanese director Naomi Kawase, French actor-director Daniel Auteuil and Roman director Christian Mungui.
Apart from Vidya Balan, the actress Nandita Das is also a part of a separate jury for short film.
On hearing the news, the director Sujoy Ghosh expressed his joy on twitter. He left a twit saying, “balan is on cannes jury!! way to go:) (sic).”
The 35-year actress played the lead role in Ghosh’s 2012 release Kahaani. She bagged almost all the major awards this year for her power-packed performances in the thriller.
Cannes has invited India this year to celebrate 100 years of country’s cinema. The festival will open on May 15 with the film, The Great Gatsby, featuring megastar Amitabh Bachchan. He is playing cameo in the film.
Vidya Balan proved her acting prowess and she really deserves to be there.
