The scheduled screening of ‘The Dirty Picture’ on Sony TV on Sunday has been postponed after the Information and Broadcast Ministry directed the channel to telecast the movie at a night time slot. The movie was scheduled to be telecast at 12 afternoon and 8 pm on Sunday.
The ministry in a letter to Sony TV on Saturday says that the channel should refrain from telecasting the ‘UA’ certified Vidya Balan’s movie The Dirty Picture during the day and evening hrs on Sunday. However, if Sony TV considers telecasting the ‘UA’ certified movie, they should telecast it during night time hrs after 11 pm, as per official sources. The originally ‘A’ rated movie went through 59 cuts to receive a UA certificate, in order to be screened on Tv.
But as per Central Board of Film Certification, a UA certified movie can be shown only after 11 pm. CBFC had recommended that the movie should be shown late at night when the majority of parents are available to correctly guide their kids, said the sources. Talking with a daily, the film’s leading actress, Vidya Balan, opposed the I &B ministry’s judgment to stall the screening of the film on prime time Tv.
