Umar Akmal needs to go back to regional cricket: Chief selector

Pakistan cricket team chief selector and temporary coach Mohsin Hasan Khan on Sunday defended the axing of Umar Akmal from the Test side, saying Umar need to back to regional cricket learn playing massive innings.

“To be honest I was chief selector when we dropped Umar Akmal for the Test sequence but even if I had been the coach I’d have still dropped him. He’d not have found a position in my squad,” Mohsin says.

The Ex- Test cricketer says Umar was very gifted player but he has been dropped to make him understand he needed to do more to put on the Pakistan cap. “There is no question over his capability or skill. But he’s not performed enough to stay in the side. Mainly we’ve given him a signal go and play regional cricket and learn how to play huge innings. Discover how to turn your 30’s and 40’s into 100s for the squad. Stop being selfish,” Mohsin says.

Umar Akmal the younger brother of wicket-keeper Kamran Akmal has currently hit 2 centuries in the first 2 rounds of the on-going Quaid-e-Azam trophy.
