Samsung is improving its tablet range with a rival to Apple’s iPad Mini that sports a pen for writing on the screen. Samsung announced on Sunday in Barcelona that the Galaxy Note 8.0 will have an 8-inch screen, putting it quite close in size to the Apple’s tablet, which released in November with a 7.9-inch screen.
It isn’t initially Samsung has made a tablet that is in the iPad Mini’s size range: it is quite 1st iPad rival had a 7-inch screen, and it still makes a tablet of that size, but with no pen. Samsung will begin selling the latest tablet in the April to June period, at an as yet undetermined price. It made the statement ahead of Mobile World Congress, the wireless industry’s yearly trade show, which begins Monday in Barcelona, Spain.
Galaxy Note 8.0 fills a gap in Samsung’s line-up of pen-equipped products between the Galaxy Note II smartphone, with its 5.5-inch screen, and the Galaxy Note 10.1, a full-size tablet. Samsung has made the pen, or more correctly the stylus, among the tools it utilizes to chip away at Apple’s popularity in both tablets and high-end smartphones.
Apple does not make any gadgets that work with styluses, choosing to improve its interfaces for fingers, mice and touch pads.
