The PCB is set to hold its proposed super league T20 event, called Pakistan Premier League, in March this year. A source in PCB informed PTI that tentatively the super league has been intended for March 24 in Lahore, a day after Pakistan’s tour to South Africa ends.
“The PCB chairman, Zaka Ashraf is likely to introduce the league’s logo on Thursday,” the source said. PCB has currently established a secretariat to run the T20 event. Ex- banker, Sarwar Salman Butt has been hired as the MD while the board is also paying ex- ICC executive Haroon Lorgat USD 25,000 per month to work as an advisor for the event, the source said. An Indian firm has also worked as coordinator for the board in the league.
“The PCB has made up its mind to go forward with the super league in March and Lorgat, the Indian firm and the executive director Badar Rafai were utilizing their connections to to sign international players,” the source said. The PCB is optimistic that particularly the participation of Lorgat as event advisor and consultant will have long term advantages for them and they should be able to get some famous players for the event.”
The super league will begin after the Pakistan’s tour to South Africa ends in March while the IPL starts in the 1st week of April. The source said it had been made a decision to have 5 franchises for the league.
