PCB shortlist Mickey Arthur for head coach job

PCB has shortlisted Ex- South African coach, Mickey Arthur, for the position of head coach of the national cricket squad. The official source in the board verified that Arthur was among the 5 applicants finalised by the special panel, which was established by the board to advise ex- coach Waqar Younis’ substitute.

The panel, lead by ex-Pakistan skipper, Intikhab Alam, shortlisted Australia’s Dean Jones, ex- England all-rounder Dermot Reeves, Mickey Arthur and 2 Pakistanis — Aaqib Javed and Sabih Azhar — for the position. The panel had submitted the list to the Ex- chairman of PCB, Ijaz Butt and he had told Intikhab and Rameez Raja who’s on the panel to first discuss along with Arthur and if he rejected than the others in order of selection,” the source says.

Mickey Arthur, a well-known name in global cricket, coached the South Africans from 2005 to 2010 before stepping down caused by issues with Cricket South Africa. Mickey Arthur, who’s now training a South African provincial team, had in 2009 also removed from the race for coaching the English side that finally went to Andy Flower.
