Pakistan skipper Misbah-ul-Haq has said South African quick bowler Vernon Philander would be Proteas’ most harmful weapon during their upcoming Test series.
Misbah added minimizing Philander’s impact in a Test match would much improve Pakistan’s chances of gaining something from the series. Philander was part of the Proteas team for the series after missing out in the 2nd Test against New Zealand with a hamstring problem.
Misbah said the way Philander is presently bowling with the new ball, hitting the seam and moving the red ball, makes him more harmful on bowling friendly South African pitches. Misbah suggested his batsmen to stick to basics against Philander, also suggesting them to work out his first spells and then attempt to make the most of the conditions.
Misbah said he understood his squad would’ve their work cut out against the hosts, who’d be solid favorites to clinch the series. Pakistan face South Africa in 3 Tests, starting with the 1st game at the Wanderers on February 1, 2 T20 internationals and 5 ODIs.
