Australian skipper Michael Clarke has reportedly become the country’s top paid sports celebrity with almost 6 million dollars, due to a half-billion dollar deal television contract finalized between Cricket Australia Channels Nine and Ten.
Nine will keep worldwide cricket after spending 400 million dollars over 5 years while Ten pays 100 million dollars for the Big Bash League across the same period. As per the report, CA has also received 500 million dollars in media rights from other sources including India, England, Champions League Twenty20 and ICC television returns.
Under the contract, Michael Clarke will make about 2.5 million dollars from the CA, with individual sponsorships, endorsements and the IPL over doubling his earnings to about 6 million dollars. As per the report, several Australian players now make more than one million dollars annually with the minimum agreement for the top 20 cricketers being 235,000 dollars plus 6 figure tour charges.
The report more revealed that Australian cricket is now set up to redouble its pursuit of the best teen players in the country, adding that a revamped eight-team BBL will be a central plank in showing career paths for young cricketers which could land them moneymaking IPL deals even before they play for Australia.
