Google has withdrawn 2 key patent claims against Microsoft stemming from its subsidiary, Motorola Mobility. The motion ends the ITC patent war between the 2 technology giants, which at first started in November, 2010.
Motorola had sued Microsoft over wireless and video coding patents used in the Xbox 360 and its smart phones. Microsoft, however, mentioned the smartphone maker was unfairly seeking too much royalty payments for the H.264 video patents. Motorola demanded between $100 million and $125 million on a yearly basis for the usage of the patents in question, while the ex- mentioned it would accept $502,000 annually.
A U.S. judge had earlier ruled that Motorola will not be given an injunction against Microsoft products including the Xbox 360 and Windows within the USA and Germany.
