Top challengers Apple and Samsung are fighting in several levels, from Samsung ready to build more processors for Apple devices in 2015, to a slug fest in Smartphones, Tablets, iPads and portable computing. Samsung’s just launched Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 $299 squarely set to compete with Apple’s iPad most affordable mini $329 WiFi 16 GB. They’re similar in feel and looks and only a hair’s difference in thickness.
Both have 8-inch screens but the Tab is clearly narrower when held vertically and longer. Because both units are touchscreen with really small bezel on the long side space. The exact bezel finish is softer on the Tab 3. Both have 16 GB of storage space but the Tab 3 takes an SD card slot for up to 64 GB, an important benefit for just taking additional stuff with you to use when away. 5 megapixel cameras in front and a 1.3 Megapixel for the Tab 3 and 1.2 Megapixel for the mini.
The screens are similar, bright and look fine from any angle, but the Tab 3 has a bit more detail with 1280 x 800 resolution compared to mini’s 1024-by-768 resolution. The Tab3, which is only WiFi, includes GPS for more good quality mapping compared to WiFi mini, but the more costly cellular mini uses GPS assist.
