Dav Whatmore says he’s not recommended batting coach

Dav WhatmorePakistan’s head coach, Dav Whatmore has refused talks about him suggesting Trent Woodhill for the post of the national team`s batting coach before ICC Champions Trophy. Dav Whatmore told journalists before the team`s leaving for Ireland earlier today that Woodhill`s appointment was a decision of the PCB. He also disclosed that he hadn’t had any discussions along with Woodhill since his appointment was made.

“I sent him some emails and messages but didn`t get any reply as he is in India for the Indian Premier League,” Whatmore said. Since the PCB named Woodhill as batting instructor — he will join the squad in England — it’s come in for criticism as the Australian has played no first-class cricket and until last year his only claim to identification was that he was an associate coach of the New Zealand side.

The Woodhill`s appointment came as a big surprise to the Pakistani cricket community with the board it’s trying him out for 3 weeks before deciding whether to give him a long-term agreement. Initially it’s reported that Dav Whatmore had suggested a Woodhill`s name to the PCB but the head coach refused.
