A leading Commonwealth Games official on today mentioned the sports body will try to force the ICC to add T20 cricket in the future Games editions. “We want to engage the ICC to add cricket as we need to maintain the Games among the world`s top multi-sport occasions,” Commonwealth Games Federation sports review panel chairman Tunku Imran explained.
But Tunku Imran accepted that it would be an uphill process to get the ICC to accept to their appeal. “If the ICC confirms, we could have the game in the 2018 Commonwealth Games. However it is not really simple,” he explained. Cricket was played during the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Malaysia but was shed in future Games because of issues in coming to an suitable framework between the CGF and ICC.
