Pakistan’s former skipper Wasim Akram feels the Aussies have been left flummoxed by off-spinner Saeed Ajmal and this would tilt the balance in Pakistan’s favor in the ongoing ODI series in the UAE.
Australia won the 1st ODI in Sharjah but were humbled in the 2nd ODI at Abu Dhabi in searing conditions with heavy dew also making life challenging for the bowlers on Friday evening.
But Wasim Akram felt that the main benefit for Pakistan was that the Aussies had no idea on how to play Saeed Ajmal. “They cannot pick his off-break from his Doosra and that displays the quality of the bowler,” he said. He said this was the reason Saeed Ajmal had presently picked up 7 wickets in just 2 games without conceding too many runs.
Saeed Ajmal, who’s been the top wicket-taker in tests for the calendar time starting from July 2011 to August, 2012, was included in the ICC’s Test squad of the year but wasn’t selected for any other category of the yearly awards. His omission came as a shock to many as he has also done at number 2 in the list of leading wicket-takers in ODIs for the same time assessed by the ICC while selecting their final nominations.
But Saeed Ajmal said while he was upset at not being selected in the final groups he wasn’t dejected and pleased to be the only Pakistani in the ICC Test squad.
