Now that the various BlackBerry products feature larger displays, they’re subjected to the same level of battery drain that most mobile phones face today. Everybody knows there’s a investment for larger, full-colored displays. Well, the people over at the official BlackBerry blog have made a decision to publish a primer to guidance those of you who want to squeeze in an additional couple of hrs of life of the battery from your BlackBerry handsets.
It appears that applications left open (even when they’re not in use) can affect the battery life of BlackBerry units, so close any applications that you aren’t utilizing. Another tip (which works on all mobile phones) is to switch off connections that aren’t in use. Switch off WiFi when you’re not in range or not intending to use it, the same thing goes for Bluetooth and 3G. However, if you’re in a location with poor 3G coverage but you have WiFi accessible, switch on WiFi instead.
Some other tips include utilizing a holster, allowing auto on/off, and adjusting the brightness of the display’s backlight. While all of these tips should be 2nd nature for regular mobile phone customers, I learnt new things – utilizing a cotton swab or dry cloth to clean the metal contacts of the battery and the mobile phone every couple of months should help as well.
