Apple is highly expected to release its iPhone 6 in July with a larger display than any Apple smartphone to date. Now it looks not only the size will change but the way the display works – resulting in a super colourful screen. Business Insider says that Apple may use this fairly new technology in its iPhone 6.
To date at least 5 patents have been filed Apple referencing the technology. Also Jason Hartlove, CEO of Nanosys says the very first quantum dot screen mobile will release by mid-year. Quantum dots are nanocrystals made out of semiconductors. Because of being in the nano size they create massive effects. The outcome is very specific light frequencies for colour reproduction that are more genuine than other materials can manage.
Amazon utilized quantum dots with its Kindle Fire HDX tablets for outstanding colour reproduction. But it does suffer light-bleed as a result – an issue Apple aims to deal with according to the patents.
