Google and Facebook remove disputed content in India

GoogleGoogle has reportedly deleted content regarded as offensive to Indian political and religious leaders to comply with a court lawsuit that has increased censorship concerns in the globe’s biggest democracy. India’s govt says U.S. Internet polices are not acceptable for Indian customers.

Press Trust of India reveals that Facebook, Google and 20 other websites were given 14 days to present further options for monitoring their networks for pictures, video clips or text regarded as “anti-social or “anti-religious”.

The lawsuit highlights the problems India faces in balancing conservative spiritual and political emotions with its expect that freewheeling Internet discourse and modern technology will help spur the economy.
