Apple expects to sell over 60 million iPad this year

Apple predicted to sell Around 60 million iPad in 2012 , bringing the total sold since the tablet was launched in April 2010 to over 100 million, estimate experts who cover Apple. Some 55 million have been sold to date, as per Apple.

The power of iPad sales along with those of iPhones and Macintosh computers assisted power Apple to a market value of $500 billion, a feat couple of other companies have achieved. Cisco, ExxonMobil, General Electric, Intel and Microsoft all once hit that level but have since slipped back.

“Public have been waiting to get the latest iPad,” says Shaw Wu, an expert with Sterne, Agee. “There’s real pent-up demand.”He forecasts sales of 55 million iPads this season alone; Piper Jaffray expert Gene Munster feels it’s much higher, at 60 million.

The present total tablet market is 75 million, claims Munster, and includes designs based on Google’s Android mobile phone os such as those from Toshiba and Samsung, the Amazon Kindle Fire and Barnes & Noble’s Nook Tablet.
