The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI), for the week ended on August 26, for the minimum earnings group upto Rs.3,000, has registered increase of .54 percent over the previous week.
The SPI for the week under review in the above described group was recorded at 273.56 points as against 272.09 points registered in the earlier week, according provisional figures of Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS).
The weekly SPI has been computed with base 2000 2001=100 covering 17 urban centers and 53 essential items for all income groups and combined.
SPI for the combined group registered improve of .43 per cent by going up from 261.78 points in the earlier week to 262.91 points in the week under review.
As compared to the corresponding week of last year, the SPI for the combined group in the week under review observed enhance of 16.72 percent.
As compared to the last week, the SPI for the income groups ranging from Rs.3001 5000, Rs.5001 12000 and above Rs.12000 greater by .51 percent, .49 percent and .41 percent respectively.
During the week under review average prices of 4 items
registered reduce, while that of 23 products enhance with the remaining 26 items’ prices the same.
The items which recorded decrease in their average costs during the week under review included potatoes, tomatoes, garlic and onions.
The items which registered increase in their prices included, bananas, moong pulse (washed), sugar, gram pulse (washed), LPG (11 kg cylender), gur, wheat (average quality), tea (prepared), beef, mash pulse (washed), washing soap, vegetable ghee (loose), milk (fresh), mutton, rice basmati (broken), firewood, chicken (farm), wheat flour (average quality), egg hen (farm), mustard oil, rice (irri-6) masoor pulse (washed) and kerosene.
The items with no change in their average prices during the week under review included, bread plain (mid size), milk (powdered), curd, vegetable ghee (tin), cooking oil (tin), salt (powdered), red chillies, tea (packet), cooked beef, cooked dal, cigarettes, coarse latha, lawn, voil (printed), shirting, sandal (gents), sandal (ladies), chappal, electricity bulb (60wats), match box, bath soap, gas charges (up to 3.3719 MMBTU), electricity charges (1-100 unit), petrol, diesel and telephone local call.
