Supreme Court on Thursday directed PM Gilani to ask Swiss govt to restore graft cases against President Zardari and to file a report on the issue on March 21. The Top Court said in an order that Gilani should write a letter to the Swiss govt without waiting to seek the suggestions of his lawful experts. It asked him to submit a report giving details of the steps taken by him at the upcoming hearing.
A 7 judge bench led by justice Nasir-ul-Mulk says contempt proceedings initiated against Gilani for neglecting to act on the court’s earlier orders to restore the cases against Zardari would carry on simultaneously.The bench told PM Gilani to record his detailed reply to the contempt proceedings by March 21, failing which closing debates in the case would get underway.The bench given this direction after Attorney General Anwar-ul-Haq, the prosecutor for the case, cross-examined cabinet secretary Nargis Sethi, who’s appearing as a witness.
PM’s legal representative Aitzaz Ahsan informed journalists that the bench had asked the premier to file a full statement by March 19 or to appear in person and record his statement on March 21.
