The NAB on Wednesday submitted an additional reference against the former PM Raja Pervez Ashraf in connection with his alleged involvement in popular rental power projects. With this move, the NAB has nominated Ashraf as an accused in the multi-billion-rupee scandal along with 9 other accused who were already nominated.
Late last month, Chairman NAB Qamar Zaman Choudhry gave his approval to submit the reference against the former prime minister. The 263-page reference is submitted at an anti-corruption court, which will start its hearing from November 19. Ashraf had been under investigation for his part in granting rental power projects as a water and power minister in the cabinet of ex-PM Yousuf Raza Gilani.
In March 2012, the Supreme Court of Pakistan had declared these projects against the law and ordered investigations against the authorities, including Raja Pervez Ashraf, allegedly involved in the fraud.
