The Punjab govt on yesterday made a decision to move the Supreme Court against the federal govt’s judgement to ban CNG for public transport. A high-level conference chaired by Punjab CM Shahbaz Sharif made a decision to challenge the federal government’s judgement to close CNG stations in Punjab in the Top Court.
The conference made a decision that people in the civil society, lawyers and Punjab govt would collectively make a case to file in the Supreme Court within the next 2 days. As per sources, the Punjab govt probably will take the position that Chief Justice told the govt that diesel-free public transport would operate in Pakistan, including Lahore, after a suo motu notice in 2009.
Sources added that the Punjab govt would more inform the court that transporters in Lahore fitted CNG kits in their cars after the decision, but were no longer being supplied CNG.
