PPP and PML-Q to field joint candidates for by-elections

The PPP and the PML-Q have made a decision to field joint contenders for by-elections in the constituencies which fell vacant after disqualification of MNAs and MPAs on dual nationality. The PPP earlier had gone for a single flight and announced the names of the contenders for by-elections in 4 constituencies in Punjab.

However, after a gathering with Pervaiz Elahi and Moonis Elahi at their home here on yesterday, the PPP announced fielding joint contenders. President Zardari’s sister Faryal Talpur had constituted a five-member board including federal minister Chaudhry Nazar Gondal, Opposition Leader in Punjab Assembly Raja Riaz, Imtiaz Safdar Warraich, Shaukat Basra and Amir Dogar to talk about seat-adjustment method for Punjab in coming elections.

Interestingly, the PPP command changed Nazar Gondal with the federal minister Khurshid Shah as the Chaudhrys of Gujrat weren’t happy with him. After the gathering, PPP’s Imtiaz Safdar Warraich and PML-Q’s Kamil Ali Agha told journalists both the sides would field joint contenders for the by-elections. They said the coalition would continue. Both sides had decided to work out district-wise seat-adjustment in the next gatherings.
