Shahid Afridi’s men must be given a heroes’ reception when they arrive in Pakistan no matter what their defeat to India in the World Cup semi- finals, told a lot of ex- cricketers on Thursday. Not too long ago, Pakistan players would’ve shown fury and backlash after a loss by their typical opponents.
Ex- skipper Javed Miandad explained the side had dropped a few outstanding cricketers — Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Aamer — to corruption restrictions and a couple weeks before the contest they didn’t even know who their skipper would be. But once Afridi was selected skipper, he combined the team and aimed his guys with a one minded target that served them top their group in the 1st round.
“The squad battled effectively and had it not fallen the catches delivered by Sachin the outcome may have been different,” explained Inzamam-ul-Haq.
Ex- wicket keeper, Rashid Latif concluded: “Any other squad would’ve been a victim of the challenges that came with the spot fixing and disciplinary scams. But our guys proved a great deal of determination and Afridi guided them wonderfully.”
Main political party in Pakistan also praised the cricket squad with Punjab CM, Shahbaz Sharif, promising a cash prize of 500,000 rupees for each cricketer.
