PML-N Central Organising Committee was meeting here on Tuesday to decide whether to back a no-confidence vote against the PM.The chance of a no-confidence vote against PM Yousuf Raza Gilani arose Sunday after the MQM joined the opposition and deprived the federal government of a parliamentary majority.Gilani could rule with a minority coalition but would have to step down if he loses a no-confidence vote in parliament.
A no-confidence motion requires a majority to pass.Today’s meeting was called by PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif to talk about the country’s political scenario.Shahbaz Sharif, Hamza Shahbaz Sharif and the provincial party heads were also attending the special session. The meeting of 58 members of the Central Organising Committee is expected devise the party’s strategy in the country’s existing political situation.
Nawaz Sharif had before mentioned that he would “not become a part of establishment politics”. However, PML-N leaders and Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan had said that they would not come to the government’s rescue.
