Musharraf had knowledge of Benazir’s assassination: Mark Siegel

A report by the U.N and a Pakistani Joint Investigation Team (JIT), probing ex- PM Benazir Bhutto’s murder, says ex- President Musharraf was aware of the Benazir murder plan and personally instructed the destruction of proof, Mark Siegel claimed in a New York Daily News article on Thursday.

Siegel was an adviser of late Benazir Bhutto, Siegel claims he was with the ex- PM on September 25, 2007, when she’d received a call from Musharraf “threatening her with serious outcomes if she came back to Pakistan.” “She was clearly shaken when she hung up the phone,” writes Siegel.

Soon after her arrival to Pakistan, and after the initial failed murder attempt on her life, Siegel says she wrote an email to him indicating “if anything happened to her, she’d hold Musharraf accountable.”

The JIT report indicates that Musharraf, working with 2 police officers who reported back to him, knew of the planning of the murder, was aware of the timing and personally instructed the damage of evidence, writes Siegel.
