Federal Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Asif has apologized to the nation for the unscheduled and prolonged hours of load shedding throughout the country. Addressing a joint media meeting along with State Minister for Water and Power, Khawaja Asif said that the demand of electricity stood at 19,000MW against the generation of 12,000MW.
Khawaja Asif said the federal government will have to take quick steps to stop power theft and line losses to overcome the crisis. He feared that the nation may have to face the same scenario if the weather continues to be hot and dry for which the govt was apologetic. The federal minister said the PML-N-led govt was trying to add 6-7,000MW of electricity within 2 to 3 years in the system.
Khawaja Asif further explained that 9 power plants were shut down due to hot weather because of which 1300MW weren’t provided to the grid stations.
