Joint Opposition boycotts presidential speech

Opposition groups in Senate boycotted President Mamnoon Hussain’s speech to the joint session of the Parliament on Monday. A meeting of Senate opposition groups led by Senator Aitzaz Ahsan held at the Parliament House. Senators of PPP, ANP, Baloch National Party-Awam and PML-Q attended the meeting.

The opposition senators criticized PM Nawaz Sharif for not attending a single session of Senate. They said that the PM didn’t take the Upper House of the Parliament very seriously so why the senator attend President’s speech to the joint session. On the other hand, treasury members Ahsan Iqbal, Ishaq Dar and Zahid Hamid tried to convince the opposition to attend the session but they failed.

Later, talking to media Aitzaz Ahsan said that the opposition in the Senate has concerns over the performance of the PM Nawaz Sharif. He said that Nawaz Sharif is the only Pm in the world who didn’t join any session of the Senate for a single time during the full parliamentary year.
