Electricity dilemma in the country has again more intense as the shortfall increased over 6,000MW on Wednesday. Sources said that the need for electricity by Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) alone has doubled. They said that the power generation in the country presently stands at 13,000MW against the need of 19,000 megawatts.
Speaking about factors for the Electricity shortfall, sources said that financial crisis remained at the heart of the present situation. As per sources, PEPCO was supposed to pay over Rs100 billion to independent power producers (IPPs) but could manage only Rs32 billion. With IPPs getting only 30 % of their payments, their fuel supplies dropped and so did their generation.
As a result, the power distribution firms are forced to resort to prolonged unannounced load shedding causing big trouble to the citizens in this very hot summer heat.
