Death sentence for killer of Salman Taseer

On Saturday, an Anti-Terrorism Court given death sentence to Malik Mumtaz Hussain Qadri on Saturday in Salman Taseer killing case, our sources revealed. Salman Taseer was assassinated by his security officer and employees of Punjab Elite Force, Mumtaz Qadri, on January 4, 2011 at Kohsar Market in Islamabad.

The court has given my client with death. The court declared the death penalty for him,” Shujaur Rehman, one of Mumtaz Qadri’s legal representatives, informed AFP by phone. Judge Pervez Ali Shah declared the judgement at the court behind closed doors in the high protection Adiyala jail in Rawalpindi, the legal representative says.

Lots of folks rallied outside the jail where the judgement was declared, chanting slogans in assistance of Mumtaz Qadri, an AFP photo snapper says. Mumtaz Qadri had earlier revealed in court that he had murdered Punjab governor Salman Taseer for his ‘blasphemous’ remarks.
