Court reserves decision against Zardari in Polo ground reference

An accountability court in Islamabad today reserved its judgment on the polo ground reference case against ex- president Asif Ali Zardari after hearing the arguments of his lawyer and the NAB prosecutor.


Accountability court judge Mohammad Bashir heard the 5 NAB references against the ex- president. During the hearing, Zardari’s lawyer Farooq H. Naek shown his arguments in the court and said the polo ground reference was delivered under the Accountability Act of 1997. He said the FIA inspection in the polo ground reference was illegal, adding that without the NAB chairman’s application, the FIA couldn’t undertake a suo motu probe.

Farooq H. Naek said the statements of 28 eye-witnesses and 2 investigative officials had been recorded in the case and added that none of the witnesses had chosen Zardari. He also said Zardari was the husband of the ex- PM Benazir Bhutto and questioned as to what could his part be in the ongoing development in the Pm House. He said development work occurred regularly in the President House and the PM House.
