Court to award Pervez life imprisonment or death penalty: Govt

The federal govt leveled 5 charges against General (retd) Pervez Musharraf, praying to the special court to award the army ruler death penalty or life imprisonment in high treason case. As per the documents, the federal govt in its complaint to the court leveled 5 allegations against Pervez Musharraf.

Leading the charge is the issuance of the Proclamation of Emergency on November 3, 2007 by Musharraf in his capacity as the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), which was illegal and in clear violation of the Constitution. The 2nd charge is the issuance of PCO 1 of 2007 by Musharraf as the COAS, whereby he, in clear violation of his oath as president and a member of the military, unconstitutionally and unlawfully empowered the president to amend the Constitution from time to time.

The 3rd charge is the issuance of the Oath of Office (Judges) Order 2007 on November 3 as president where all the judges of the Supreme Court, the Federal Shariat Court or high courts ceased to hold their offices with fast effect except those who were given, and did make, the oath in the form set out in the Schedule of the same order.
