Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan on today informed the media that Malik Riaz had approached him to hire his services as a attorney in the contempt of court case, but he declined to do so. Aitzaz Ahsan believed that there would be no reference against the chief justice of Pakistan from the president in the backdrop of Dr Arsalan Iftikhar graft case.
It’s pertinent to point out that the Supreme Court has given Malik Riaz 7 days to hire a lawyer in the contempt of court case today. The court also told Riaz to not ask for more time for counsel’s planning after 7 days.
“I am wanting to contract high-profile legal representatives including Aitzaz Ahsan but failed to succeed in hiring one. I’m optimistic I will hire somebody soon,” Riaz informed the bench. Real-estate tycoon Malik Riaz Hussain is facing contempt charges over a media conference that scandalised and ridiculed the judiciary relating to the Dr Arsalan case.
The Supreme Court had issued a show cause notice to Riaz on yesterday.
