The Islamabad High Court has declared the appointment of PCB chief Zaka Ashraf illegal and ordered the Election Commission to hold PCB elections within Ninety days. On the application of Major (retd) Nadeem Sadal, the high court gave a decision on Zaka Ashraf’s appointment. The 3 member high court bench was led by Justice Shaukat Aziz.
The decision mentioned that the PCB chief should follow article 62, 63 of the Constitution, under which a first class or test cricketer or a graduate could fight in the PCB polls. The order noted that president’s part was just symbolic in the selection of PCB chief and that Zaka Ashraf’s appointment wasn’t made due to experience but rather individual connections.
The high court also ordered the PCB to eliminate illegally appointed officers from their opportunities. With relation to this decision, a short order has been given which bars Zaka Ashraf from working further. The decision has given the election commission the duty of performing free and fair PCB elections within Ninety days.
