Former Pakistan captain Waqar Younis has filed an application for the empty post of Pakistan cricket team’s head coach. Waqar Younis said that including former captain Wasim Akram in the coach selection board was a good idea. He said that there would be no compromise on physical fitness and discipline, adding that his help could also be taken to the national team’s training.
On January 21, PCB administrators started the search for a fresh head coach for the national team, a day after Dav Whatmore’s two-year period ended with a series-leveling victory over Sri Lanka. The PCB said in a statement that it had invited applications for the positions of head coach, batting coach and fielding coach for the national team. Wasim Akram, Javed Miandad and Intikhab Alam are people of the PCB-appointed board assigned by selecting the coaches.
The last decision will come before the Asia Cup in Bangladesh. “In my personal opinion, the national team should have coaching staff from Pakistan,” Wasim Akram had said earlier.
