Tino Best and Shoaib Malik have been charged hefty penalties after being engaged in an on-field clash during a Caribbean Premier League (CPL) game between Barbados Tridents and St. Lucia Zouks on July 23.
The heated clash happened during the 15th over of the Tridents’ innings, after Tino Best clean-bowled Shoaib Malik for 49. Tino Best foul-mouthed Shoaib Malik after dismissing him, to which the Pakistan all-rounder replied by placing his hands on the fast bowler’s shoulder. The game referee, at the ending of the match, held both cricketers guilty.
Tino Best was guilty of doing 2 violations: “conduct that either (a) is contrary to the spirit of the game; or (b) brings the game into disrepute”, a level- one offence and “using language or a gesture(s) that is seriously obscene, seriously offensive or of a seriously insulting nature to another player”, a level-two offence. As a result, he has been fined 10% and 50% of his game fees.
Shoaib Malik has been 50% of his match fees as his offence linked to “inappropriate and deliberate physical contact between players”. Both cricketers have accepted their offences.
