Pakistan selectors reportedly intend to recall a few of the discarded batsmen, including Shoaib Malik, in order to improve the national team’s batting line up.
As per the sources in the PCB revealed that in the first phase the selectors were intending to recall discarded opener Yasir Hameed, middle-order batsman Fawad Alam and Shoaib Malik into the ODI team.
Shoaib Malik has been named in the national T20 team for the Australia series and T20 World Cup, but the selectors are yet to announce the ODI team for the Australia series. Yasir hasn’t been selected to play for Pakistan since 2010, and Fawad Alam has also been out of favor with the selectors. “Their feeling is that the time is right to start planning ahead to strong the batting line-up in the ODI and Test formats,” the source said.
“The selectors think that the batsmen aren’t scoring continually, and secondly they aren’t getting big scores as was the requirement of the side. The strategy isn’t only to recall some discarded cricketers like Yasir and Fawad but also to give more responsibility to Shoaib Malik and also test some fresh faces,” the source added.
