Ex- quick bowler Shoaib Akhtar has blasted the performance of the national team in the ODI series, singling out skipper Misbah-ul-Haq and all-rounder Shoaib Malik for scathing criticism.
Shoaib mentioned that the Pakistan team required to review its selection strategy for ODI and T20 games as there was no longer any position for cricketers like Shoaib Malik. “He has been playing for approximately 12 yrs and he’s done nothing big. He and some other cricketers who used to wait for hrs to meet with the then PCB Chairman Nasim Ashraf were rewarded,” he claimed. Shoaib said that Shoaib Malik had indulged in politics and intrigues in the squad being accountable for the ouster of Abdul Razzaq. “He even targeted Afridi and wanted him to be sent home. At one occasion manager Talat Ali was ready to send Afridi home but we all took a stand and mentioned this would not occur,” he recalled.
Shoaib Akhtar claimed that it was horrible that Shoaib Malik was still being played at the costs of more suitable younger cricketers. Shoaib also castigated Misbah for his unaggressive frame of mind and captaincy.
