PCB rues turning down BCCI offer during ICC revamp

The BCCI is reported to have offered the PCB a minimum of 3 home and 3 away tours between 2015 and 2023 in exchange for getting the latter’s support for a takeover of the functions of the ICC by the “Big Three” i.e. India, Australia and England.

As per Express Tribune report, this short window of opportunity for the PCB would have fetched the latter close to USD 100 million. The offer, however, broke down when the then PCB chief, Zaka Ashraf, asked for ensuring which the BCCI was hesitant to commit to. As per report, details of the collapsed agreement were shared with the PCB governing board during a gathering organized on January 18 at the National Cricket Academy.

The paper more discloses that the BCCI also offered the PCB a quick tour of the UAE and a chance to become the 4th permanent member of the group led by India, Australia and England. Zaka Ashraf, however, wanted the BCCI to contain phrases in the deals that if they assure wasn’t kept, then the case would be heard in Switzerland – where all ICC-related cases are decided.

The entire story finally led to the sacking of Zaka Ashraf by PCB patron and Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif.
