The PCB has been reportedly thinking about the return of all-rounder Shahid Afridi to the group for the upcoming West Indies tour because of the team`s woeful campaign at the ICC Champions Trophy. The Champions Trophy snub was the 2nd for Afridi within 6 months, after being dropped for the ODI series in India, due to his bad form in the South Africa tour, despite his skills as an effective spin bowler.
However, Pakistan`s bad show at the Champions Trophy, where the majority of the senior players failed with the bat, has forced the selection board to re-think, with a selector saying that the debate on recalling the all-rounder has started within the selection board, in spite of the vacant chairman’s seat. Saying that even experienced players like Shoaib Malik , who was selected for his useful knocks in South Africa, have not to perform in the Champions Trophy, the selector said that PCB is reconsidering Shahid Afridi as he is experienced and may regain rhythm after a break.
The selector more said that cricketers like Younus Khan, Ahmed Shehzad and Hammad Azam are also under consideration, although he added that official discussions are yet to be undertaken over the subject.
