PCB invites Dav Whatmore to coach team

PCB yesterday says it has invited Dav Whatmore to complete his appointment as head coach of the national squad, an official says. Pakistan cricket team is without a regular coach since Waqar Younis left the post in Sept mentioning health issues.

“We’re in the process of finalising the appointment and in this regard are in talks with Whatmore,” PCB official Subhan Ahmed told local press on yesterday. Dav Whatmore is predicted to reach Pakistan in 2nd week of January, he added. Mohsin Khan has been acting as temporary coach and was hired for Pakistan’s series next month against England in the UAE.

Dav Whatmore, who played for Aussie in the late 1970s and early 1980s, is undoubtedly among the best victorious coaches in international cricket, having led Sri Lanka to the World Cup title in 1996. He subsequently enjoyed an effective coaching period with Bangladesh and is presently in charge of the KKR in the Indian Premier League.
