PCB approval required for Afridi’s selection: Ilyas

Acting chief selector Mohammad Ilyas, while lauding Shahid Afridi’s judgement of taking back his retirement from international cricket on yesterday, says Afridi’ can be considered for option once the PCB provides him the approval for selection.

Afridi is a world class all-rounder and that’s why he has performed a great number of ODIs, and if he has taken back his retirement judgement, the selectors will be requiring a PCB approval before giving him a nod for national selection,” says Ilyas who’s been hired as chief selector in the absence of chief selector Mohsin Khan who’s presently in the UAE with the Pakistan squad as head coach for the Sri Lanka sequence.“Actually, Afridi had declared the retirement on his personal accord while the PCB never pushed him to do so. And now if he’s returning, the selectors will think about his issue on merit,” Ilyas says.

The chief selector says that the national selection board would publicize the ODI squad for the 5 match ODI sequence against Sri Lanka after the finish of the 2nd Test of the constant Test series.
