ODI series win to put Pakistan ahead of Proteas in ICC rankings

Pakistan can reportedly move ahead if South Africa on the ICC ODI Rankings if they triumph the forthcoming five-match series against South Africa, starting in Sharjah on Wednesday, by 3-2 or better.

Pakistan, which is presently placed in 6th spot and 4 ratings points behind South Africa, can swap spot with the African team and move into 5th place on 103 ratings points if they triumph the ODI series 3-2.

As per the Daily Times, in contrast, South Africa will move to 107 ratings points if they triumph the series 4-1 and will narrow the distance along with England and Sri Lanka to just 4 ratings points, adding that the distance will be trimmed to just one rating point if South Africa sweep the series against Pakistan.

The ODI series against Pakistan offers South African vice-captain AB de Villiers a chance to overtake Hashim Amla at the top of the ICC Player Rankings for ODI Batsmen, thereby regaining the number-one ranked, the report added.
