The appointment of acting PCB chief Najam Sethi has been challenged in the Islamabad High Court with the petitioner saying that the decision was politically motivated. Abdullah Tahir, registered a petition against the Najam Sethi’s appointment which he claims was in violation of the PCB constitution.
Interestingly, the request was submitted in the same court where a complaint was filed against Najam Sethi’s predecessor, Zaka Ashraf, leading to his suspension from the Chairman’s post. The Transparency International Pakistan had also termed the nomination contrary to the PCB’s constitution.
Najam Sethi, a senior journalist, was hired by Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif to temporarily fill the post left empty by Zaka Ashraf. The IHC judge, Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui had earlier stopped Zaka Ashraf from performing his responsibilities, and had directed the Ministry of Inter Provincial Coordination to appoint an interim chairman.
