Misbah may go as T20, ODI captain

As per the sources in the PCB Misbah-ul-Haq’s stint as T20 and ODI captain is likely to come to an end after the ongoing Asia Cup. Although nothing is validated yet, Shahid Afridi and Mohammad Hafeez’s names are being regarded as possible substitutes.

Following their wins over Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, Pakistan team qualified for the finale of Asia Cup. However, their performance against India was really bad, as they lost the match horribly despite posting 329 runs on the board. Pakistan team will meet Bangladesh in the final clash at Dhaka on Thursday. The sources disclose that no matter whether the team wins or loses in the finale, Misbah will not remain at helm anymore.

“Pakistan’s next task after the Asia Cup is the tour to Sri Lanka from late May in which they play 3 Tests, 5 ODIs and 2 T20 games. And all signals are that the board and selectors feel that it is moment for Misbah to be limited to leading the Test squad while a new skipper will be declared for the ODI and T20 squads,” the source said.

Misbah took over as captain for all forms of the game after Shahid Afridi’s retirement decision right after West Indies tour a year ago. Since then, the team has been sustaining excellent performance under Misbah’s command.
