Zee Network on yesterday rebutted the claims in the defamation civil suit registered by India skipper MS Dhoni in the Madras High Court, where it has been accused of telecasting “malicious” news about the cricketer. The Madras High Court on yesterday restrained Zee News and News Nation channels from telecasting any reports relating Dhoni with the Indian IPL betting and fixing scam.
The interim order, effective for 14 days, was approved by Justice S Tamilvanan on a defamation suit registered by Dhoni saying Rs 100 crore damages from the Zee Network for allegedly telecasting “malicious” news that he was associated in betting, spot and match-fixing of IPL matches.
The news channel, however, maintained that it hasn’t telecast or presented any footage or dialogue to malign the image of MS Dhoni. The channel responded to that it had telecast the story that was according to Vindu Dara Singh and IPS officer Sampat Kumar’s statements during the sting operation which was telecast on February 24 and 28, 2014 respectively by Zee Media Corporation.
