Despite being assaulted by Shoaib Akhtar in his book and interviews, ex- Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi has backed Akhtar’s statements that Sachin Tendulkar was fearful of his speed, expressing he was a eyewitness of the shivering in front of the maverick pacer. In his book, ‘Controversially Yours’, Shoaib Akhtar said that Sachin was afraid of his bowling.
However, when asked about Rawalpindi Express’s statements,Boom Boom Afridi confirmed no hesitation in supporting the bowler.“Shoaib is telling the reality,” says Shahid Afridi. Sachin was scared of him and while fielding, I saw Tendulkar’s feet shivering while facing his bowling.”However, Shahid Afridi added that it wasn’t an unusual feature of a batsman.“There are moments when every batsman feels the stress, it happens against Saeed Ajmal even.”
The ex- skipper, however, was critical of Shoaib Akhtar’s remarks against him, accusing Shahid Afridi for his omission from the World Cup semi-final line-up against India. Shoaib should keep in mind that I apologised to the chairman and manager on his behalf and got him back into the national team. While he hasn’t lied about some other points, he won’t be in a position to look at me in the eyes after he’s says all that.
