Australia’s Ashes campaign along with England was in turmoil on Monday after team head coach Mickey Arthur was sensationally sacked, sources said, with Darren Lehmann considered as favorite to replace him. South African Arthur was dumped after a gathering with Cricket Australia chief executive James Sutherland in Bristol, reports said, a source said on yesterday
“Cricket Australia will hold a media conference with James Sutherland and (high performance coach) Pat Howard in Bristol tonight to discuss the coaching structure of the Australian team,” Cricket Australia said.
Queensland coach Darren Lehmann, who’s in England coaching Australia A, is the firm favourite to replace Arthur, whose contract was because of run until the end of the World Cup in March 2015.
Mickey Arthur, the 1st foreign-born coach of the Aussie team when hired in November 2011, appears to have paid the cost of a bad Champions Trophy campaign and a lack of discipline within the side, which came to a head with a David Warner punch-up incident recently. Sutherland was upset and demanded the team crack down on negative behavior.
