Fast bowler Mohammad Asif has filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sports against a ban charged on him by the ICC anti-corruption tribunal a year ago.The ICC tribunal charged minimum 5 yr bans on Asif and Salman Butt and Mohammad Amir for their participation in spot-fixing during the 4th test against England at Lord’s in August, 2010.
A spokesperson for Asif’s lawyer, SJS Solicitors, says an appeal had been registered. “I can validate that to you totally. It’s a quite substantial appeal. The documents has been delivered not just to the CAS, it’s been delivered to the ICC and to the PCB,” he says by phone on Yesterday. “These lawful representations are very qualified and extremely serious.”An ICC spokesperson says the world governing body weren’t informed of the appeal.
Salman Butt and Mohammad Amir were also found guilty of spot-fixing allegations by the Southwark crown court in London a year ago and given jail sentences. Asif had involved the lawful firm after his sentence by the crown court. Mohammad Asif, 29, who played 23 tests and 38 ODIs, was given a 1 year sentence for his part in bowling planned no-balls during the Lord’s Test.
