Anwar Ali becomes 5th cricketer to be dismissed Obstructing the Field

Anwar Ali became the 5th cricketer to be dismissed for ‘Obstructing the Field’ on yesterday when Pakistan were playing South Africa in the 2nd ODI at Port Elizabeth. Anwar Ali, while wanting to steal a bye, intentionally turned in the way iof the throw from wicket-keeper Quinton de Kock and was declared out.

Ex- Pakistan skipper Rameez Raja was the very first player to be out in this way when he was declared Obstructing the Field against England in 1987. 2 other Pakistan cricketers – Inzamam-ul-Haq and Mohammad Hafeez have been dismissed in similar style.

Mohinder Amarnath is the just other batsman to be out for obstructing the field apart from the 4 players pointed out above when he was given out against Sri Lanka in 1989.
